The Playstation 4 is the current best-selling console in the world. In September 2016, the Playstation was redesigned to be given a sleeker look as it is 30% slimmer and 16% lighter than the original console. The Playstation 4 has storage options of 500GB and 1TB. The console comes with a Dualshock Wireless controller and you can stream your gameplay live via YouTube or stream games to your PC/MAC/PS Vita. The Playstation 4 keeps up-to-date with technology through software updates. You’ll be able to collect trophies, transfer data between two Playstation consoles and add shortcuts to your menu. If you have a 4K TV, the PS Pro is a super-powerful version of the console with 4K gaming and entertainment capabilities. The PS4 isn’t just for gaming, it is a fully comprehensive entertainment system- you can listen to music on Spotify, stream TV shows and films instantly and access all your favourite catch up TV apps such as Netflix, Now TV, Amazon Video, BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Vevo and YouTube. You’ll also be able to watch DVDs and Bluerays through your console. You can even watch content from Sky but you will need a Sky Go Extra subscription.
Playstation 4 Games
Immerse yourself in hundreds of different worlds- fantasy, sci-fi, urban cities, country landscapes- anything is possible with a PS4. Current games available on the PS4 include Watchdogs 2, where you become a hacker trying to take control of San Francisco from a corrupt Government, become a Special Operations Pilot in Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, score goals on Fifa 17, become an assassin in Dishonored 2, try to solve a galactic mystery in No Man’s Sky, work the crops with Farming Simulator 17 and much more. You can download games directly onto your console through the Playstation Store or buy the physical discs from the likes of Game, Amazon or Tesco.
Playstation 4 Deals
You can search online for Playstation 4 deals. You will find deals from many popular retailers such as Currys, Amazon, Game, Tesco and Asda. The best time to look for deals on the Playstation 4 is around Black Friday (November) as many retailers offer deals on PS4 bundles so you can get the console and some games for a great price (even as low as £239). The best way to keep track of deals is to sign up to the retailer’s newsletter or just keep an eye on the website.
The Playstation network is the digital hub of the console’s gaming and entertainment platforms. You can use the Network to access TV services such as Netflix, Youtube and BBC iPlayer. You can also rent/buy films from the Playstation Video store. You can also play music through Spotify whilst you are gaming. Alongside third-party apps, the Playstation Network has lots of great features such as Playstation Now, where you can stream PS3 games to your PS4, the PlayStation Store where you can buy games and online multiplayer, where you can play games with both friends and strangers.
By using the PlayStation Store, you’ll be able to buy games, themes and add-ons for your console at great prices. For instance, at the time of writing in November 2016, there was a double discount period on sale, with up to 35% off top games such as EA Sports UFC, the Uncharted collection, Deadpool, Lego Batman, Manhunt, Wasteland 2 and R.B.I Baseball. You can also save 60% on PS3 and PS Vita games.
Playstation TV allows you to stream games to any TV in your home. It acts as a micro-console so that you don’t need to move your main console from TV to TV as you move rooms. You’ll never miss any of your games thanks to the remote play feature. You can also play PS Vita, PS One and PSP games on your big TV using the device. It costs £44.99 and when you purchase directly from the Playstation website you will get a voucher for three PS Vita games. The console also works for streaming TV and films to a different TV than the one that your PS4 is connected to. Stockists for the PS TV include Tesco, Smyths, Argos and Amazon – you must have a PS4 and a strong internet connection to use the device.
PlayStation Plus is a membership scheme for the Playstation. You can enjoy a 30-day free trial and then subscribe for a month, three months or annually. The benefits of being a Playstation Plus member include new free games each month, free themes for your console, exclusive discounts only available to Plus customers and more. When you join, you’ll be able to pay 300 games free of charge with no limit to the number of times that you can access them. One month’s membership to Playstation Plus costs £5.99, three months costs £14.99 and a year’s subscription costs £39.99. You can buy your subscription directly from the Playstation Store.
Playstation is a brand which is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The first Playstation console launched in 1994 in Japan. By 2003, it had become the first gaming console to sell over 120 million. A smaller version of the Playstation was released in 2000 and was known as the PSOne. Later that year, Sony launched the Playstation 2 and as of 2012, it had become the most successful console in the world selling over 150 million units. In 2006, Sony launched the Playstation 3 which had Blueray compatibility. That console sold over 80 million units. In November 2013, the Playstation 4 launched and has been recently rebranded in 2016 as a super slim version, with a 4K PS Pro also available.
