The PDSA is the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals. Maria Dickin founded this charity back in 1917 to provide care for animals with illnesses or injuries. It is the top veterinary charity in the UK and carries out more than one million free consultations every year. Originally, the organization provided free treatment when poor people couldn’t afford it for their animals. Today there are eligibility requirements to use the charity’s services. Pet owners must receive certain government benefits and live in one of the catchment areas. The PDSA requests that clients make a donation when they access their services. Non-clients can fundraise too.

PDSA Careers

The PDSA helps almost half a million pets back to better health every year. This requires millions of different treatments and a lot of dedicated staff members. You might have seen some of them on the new TV show The People’s Vet. The PDSA runs 48 Pet Hospitals across the UK which all need veterinary workers. The PDSA offices support these operations through administration, marketing, public relations, and human resources, plus fundraising through charity shops, corporate partners, and volunteers. Call 0843 596 3347 if you want to become a PDSA employee. Enquire about vacancies or graduate and apprentice programmes.
