Costco is a selection of membership-only shopping warehouses that were originally based in America, and is the largest American membership-only warehouse club. The company allows members to buy products in bulk, and, as of 2015, officially became the world’s second-largest retailer (only behind Walmart). Costco’s popularity has soared in recent years, with around 85 million members worldwide, due to the wide range of goods they sell both within their stores and also on their website. As of February 2017 Costco has 727 warehouses worldwide, found in the United States (508), Canada (95), Mexico (36), the United Kingdom (28), Japan (25), South Korea (13), Taiwan (13), Australia (8) and Spain (2). Costco employs around 174,000 people both full and part time in their warehouses. Costco stores are only open to members, and up to two guests with them. This is monitored by members owning a Costco card and signing any guests in with them. Their signature label on products is ‘Kirkland’. Their worldwide headquarters is located in Issaquah, Washington, and their first warehouse was opened in Seattle in 1983.

Costco and Price Club
In 1993 Costco and Price Club merged, as their business models and sizes were similar, and they became PriceCostco. This meant that Price Club members could use their membership cards within Costco warehouses, and vice-versa. PriceCostco had around 206 locations and generated around $16 billion in annual sales.
After the Price brothers left the company in 1994 to form Price Enterprises, its name was eventually changed to Costco Wholesale Corporation in 1997, and all remaining Price Club locations were rebranded to Costco.
Price Club began with its first warehouse in 1976, in San Diego, California. That warehouse is now known as Costco warehouse #401, and is still in operation.
Costco offers three different types of membership at different prices, depending on the type of membership required. A regular, individual membership costs £28+ VAT per person and includes a complimentary card for your spouse/domestic partner in the price. This price must be paid yearly to continue membership. Individual members can shop from 12 noon on Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays).
A trade membership – which is for if you plan to use Costco to buy products to sell within your own business – costs just £22+ VAT per card and is also an annual fee. As Costco sells products in bulk it is extremely easy to buy products for resale.
The last type of membership is for people who shop regularly at Costco and can, therefore, become an executive member. This membership costs £56 annually for a trade person, and £62 per year for an individual membership.
You must fit certain criteria to own a Costco membership card, and therefore must be eligible to apply. Criteria for membership can be found online before application, and the applications themselves can be done online. Regular members qualify for executive membership, which allows you to win back points on items that you buy.
Membership cards can be used to purchase products from the Costco website.
If you have any queries regarding Costco membership, please call the Membership contact number at 0843 557 5425

Their confectionery not only supplies large centrepieces but also collections of (very large) cupcakes which are perfect for events like weddings and birthdays.

This service is only available for store collection, and a minimum of 72 hours is required to properly prepare the cake.
