British Heart Foundation
The British Heart Foundation aims to fund vital research into the treatment and prevention of heart disease. The charity also provides the British public with accurate information about the different heart conditions and how to treat/prevent them. British Heart Foundation also runs campaigns and brings them to politicians to get better services for heart patients. Research by the British Heart Foundation is funded completely by donations from the public. You can help by making a donation, purchasing something from a British Heart Foundation shop, volunteering, taking part in an event or fundraising independently.
The charity runs a Heart Helpline, where heart patients and their families can call to have their questions answered by qualified nurses. They also run around 300 Heart Support groups across the country which support people with heart conditions.
British Heart Foundation Furniture
There are over 150 British Heart Foundation furniture and electrical shops around the UK. The shops sell high-quality furniture and electrical items for affordable prices. You will find sofas, washing machines, beds, wardrobes and TVs, starting from as little as £25. You’ll find every kind of style from antique pieces to modern items. New items arrive at the store every day so if you have a shop nearby to you it is worth visiting regularly. If you have furniture to donate, you can book a free furniture collection from British Heart Foundation. The British Heart Foundation can collect many different items such as sofas, beds, desks and washing machines, as well as clothing and electrical items. There are some items that British Heart Foundation is unable to sell such as upholstered furniture that is damaged or doesn’t have a fire label attached, electric blankets, bicycles, prams and duvets/pillows which have been used. You can also add Gift Aid each time that you make a donation to the British Heart Foundation; all you need to do is fill out a form in the shop and you will be given a card- bring it with you each time that you donate and 25% will be added to the value of your item at no extra cost to you.
British Heart Foundation Diet
The British Heart Foundation has lots of advice for people wishing to eat healthier whilst looking after their heart. To have a healthy heart, they recommend you eat at least five 80g portions of fruit and vegetables each day, cut out saturated fat by swapping fats like butter and lard for olive oils and sunflower. You should remove the skin from meat and use low-fat dairy products. You should also avoid adding salt to your foods and check your food labels to see salt levels. You should also adjust your portion sizes so that half the plate is fruit and veg. BHF recommends following a Mediterranean diet to reduce your risk of heart disease- such a diet should be rich in fruit and veg as well as oily fish, with less meat and dairy. There is plenty of information on the British Heart Foundation website regarding dietary advice, as well as recipes and inspiration for mealtimes.

About the British Heart Foundation
A group of medical professionals first founded the British Heart Foundation in 1961 after they became concerned about the number of deaths occurring from cardiovascular disease. The group wished to fund further research into treatment and prevention. In 2013, the charity had an income of over £130 million and they spent 60% on research and 20% on care and prevention. Across the UK, BHF has 950 health professionals helping to care for patients.
